Well, I’m sitting on the bus right now. We just made our first stop at the Broadmarsh Centre in Notts… Quite a way to go yet. So glad I have my iPod!

Day and date
I had a really stressful day at work. There was so much to do all day. I had to deal with an annoying customer complaining to high heaven at every little thing, and then I got co-workers complaining that I wasn’t doing everything they handed to me. Not really very fair. One of the annoying girls decided she couldn’t take any calls today because of a viral infection. It didn’t stop her from complaining all the fucking time though. So I was answering her calls and doing my regular jobs, and getting all the tasks from reception, and dealing with problem customers. I was seriously glad when 17:30 rolled around.
I got a call about another job, which is cool. I should be having a phone interview next tuesday during my lunch 🙂
After work I got a lift to Nottingham train station to meet Jo. We walked over to Antibo’s and had a wonderful meal. We spoke about bunches of stuff and had a nice walk around and such. It was a nice “date” and I look forward to more of them 🙂
I caught the train back to Mansfield with Craig because he finished work just before the last train. We both came back to my house. He spent most of the time in a conversation with his now-ex-girlfriend-again in the other room. I’m not really sure why she randomly decided to dump him this time, but I hope she stops being a silly cow. I hope Craig just doesn’t have her back. He can do better than that 🙂
Right, I have to get to sleep now because I have a bus to catch to Heathrow in the morning.
Good night all.
Blast from the past
sOla has been reminding me of an old video for the last couple of days. It’s a version of Milk and Cereal as “performed” by two asian guys who were/are at Berkeley in California.
I found the original site, but the link doesn’t work any more. I managed to hunt down another version thanks to Google, but I figured I’d mirror it myself so I can find it later. I also renamed it to the original file name so it should show up on Google when people search for it in an index listing.
Anyway, here’s the video. Enjoy. 😀
A day of general wtfness
I went to Nottingham today with JonP and David, much as I predicted in my previous post. It was much more eventful than I had planned.
Before we left Mansfield we had a couple of errands to run. On the way into town I spotted a guy dressed as a gorilla standing outside a shop. Nobody else seemed to be noticing him at all, it was really weird.
A couple of minutes later JonP was getting his watch repaired and I noticed two stilt walkers in the street just dancing around. A minute after that two black guys dressed in tarzan style clothing walked by us. It was most unusual.
On the way to the train station we were walking up to some shouting. I thought it was a couple of drunk men talking to each other, but as we got closer I noticed that it was actually just one drunk man shouting to himself. He seemed to be having a grand old time 😀
When we got to the station there was a man on the opposite platform who was either drunk, high, mentally challenged, or a combination of the three. He was walking around as if the laws of gravity did not apply to him. Bouncing to and fro on the platform. A few times I thought he was just going to fall onto the tracks, but he managed to stay relatively upright for the duration of our wait. He kept us well entertained.
The train tickets worked out to be 3 for the price of 2 when I bought all three returns at the same time on one ticket, so that was superb.
When we arrived in Nottingham we went straight to Subway. David had his first 6 inch cheese steak on white bread with mayo. I think he was a little overwhelmed by the serving method at first, but he certainly did make the most of the free refills.
We looked around a couple of CD shops, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so we headed off to Virgin Megastore with a helicopter flying overhead. This is where this story reaches the most interesting part.
As we were walking towards the store a big yellow van came speeding down along the tram lines past the lions, along the square straight towards us. Three police cars were following. The van turned the corner right next to us and we got a good view of the young lad driving it with his black hood up. He then bumped up the kerb onto the section we were on just a few metres away. The smell of brake dust and burning tyres was strong.
The van didn’t really need to swerve or brake to miss people, but some stupid old people decided to cross the road straight after the van and a police car came pretty close to hitting them, and had to stop.
We kind of stood there for a second in shock and then the general hustle and excitement took over the whole area. All you could hear was people talking about it as the helicopter continued hovering overhead.
We walked a bit towards where the helicopter was hovering and then a police car pulled up at the end of the road we were looking up. Naturally everyone started to walk/jog/run up to where all the dangerous stuff was happening. Within a minute there were lots of police walking around. Apparently the driver had got out of the van and run off. There were police with guns, extendable sticks, dogs… All just walking around.
This one police man with a gun and stick was limping around near us. A guy wearing all black and a cap was walking next to us and the police man with thelimp walked up to him and kind of frisked him in the middle of the street and then limped off again leaving the boy wondering what had just happened.
It was most bizarre. We hung around waiting for something else to happen, but nothing did. After a little while the police all packed up their things and went on their way.
Everything else that happened afterwards is pretty uninteresting by comparison, so I’ll spare you the details.
I can’t get no sleep
One the most annoying parts of waking up early for work 5 days a week is that when it’s the weekend I find myself waking up early anyway. I’m completely unable to stay in bed and sleep. This morning I woke up at 7:45 and managed to stay in bed until 8:15 before getting annoyed and getting up.
I suppose it’s nice in a way because I can make the most of my weekend, but I’d kind of like a choice 🙂
I’m off to Nottingham today with JonP and David. I’m probably going to buy some CDs that I like. I’ve decided that now I’m working and I have a cheap source for CDs I’m going to go through all my songs and albums from iTunes and buy the actual discs. It’ll be nice to have a tangible collection 😀
I guess I should really make a list of the ones I deem worth buying… Blah, that’s a job and a half!
And another
I forgot, I just want to let you all know that Julie is infinitely cool. She bought Professor n00bery the other day 😀 😀 😀 😀
I’m looking forward to next week. It’ll be weird I’m sure 🙂
Thanks a lot, Julie!
Quick update
I imagine the updates where Isay how my job is going aren’t that interesting by now, so this is just a quick one…
There’s a process called “subletting” where we call engineers who don’t work directly for us and ask them to perform inspections on our behalf. We have to call each engineer in the areas we have jobs in and arrange for an inspection to take place. We basically have to read out the address and ask if they can make it there the next day. The two complaining girls I often mention make a huge fricking deal out of it every day. They say they can’t do other things because they’re subletting. Today was my first ever attempt… You guessed it, it’s a piece of cake! I don’t know what they’re always complaining about. I actually had fun. I got to call people all over the country and chat with them and such. It was a very nice change. It can get a bit stressful when people change things around, but it was only my first go. I’ll get better with time.
One of the complaining girls leaves in 10 days. Yippeeeeee! Sadly though James also leaves in less than 2 weeks 🙁 It’ll be much more boring there without him.
For instance, today we were trying to get each other to say “meow” during the phone calls a la Super Troopers. Neither of us would do it for the longest time because we were dealing with pissy customers. After a little while I got bored and dialled James’ extension even though he sits 2 metres away. He answered with all the spiel we have to say every time. I paused for a second and said “Meow.” The look on his face as it dawned on him was absolutely classic.
He tells me that later on in the day he actually did say it in a phone call, but I didn’t notice 🙁
It’s very nice to have intelligent conversation at work. I’ll miss it when it’s gone, and all I have is bitchiness.
Tiiiired
I walked to work in the rain today. It was awful. I had a big wet patch on my shirt when I arrived where my bag had been holding the rain against the back of my jacket and it soaked through.
We moved desks around to make space for another computer in my room so now I’m backed right up again a bloody cabinet where I used to have about 2 metres of clear space for my own use. I now have about 0.5.
We have a new temp there who started yesterday. He’s been filing for two solid days. We were talking about him this afternoon with my boss type person and he said he wasn’t going to be coming back after today because the filing was done… Two people in my department are leaving in less than 2 weeks time. Another one is pregnant and will be leaving for 6 months in January, and he was just going to send away this person who’s spent two days working with us. He’d only have to go hire two more temps in a couple of weeks and have the already-overworked staff train the poor n00bs.
About 10 minutes after the conversation the boss guy came back through and announced that the new guy would be staying for a while, which just goes to show how much thought he put into his decision. Absolutely none.
On my walk home David called and told me he starts a job tomorrow, which is great news. Unfortunately it doesn’t really help with the house situation as both he and I are deemed to be in “broken employment” because we only recently started our jobs. So we need a guaranteur before we can move in or whatever. Apparently guaranteur isn’t a word, but whatever. Someone to guarantee our rent will be paid. I’ll ask my dad at some point, or possibly my mum depending on her general mood.
I’m out of things to say. I usually remember something else when I’m half way to work in the mornings, but I can’t think of what it is for the life of me when I’m at home. Oh well.
Full day
I woke up a bit late for work this morning. Luckily my mum gave me a lift so I was on time.
It was quite busy, but it was another one of those full days that seem to go pretty quickly and aren’t that bad when you think back.
After work I got a lift ot the train station and went to Nottingham. From Nottingham I caught another train over to Beeston and met Jo. We walked back to her house from the station and I met her parents and presumably her sister, although I wasn’t introduced to them, nor did I spend long with them.
We went to Jo’s room and basically just played Monopoly (Nottingham Edition) until she completely kicked my ass in it. 🙁 She insisted that I continued playing until I was 100% broke. So I had £0 and she had about £9500 (not exaggerating). I don’t know what went wrong really…
Anyways, after Monopoly it was time for me to come back home. I had arranged to contact Craig when I was finished at Jo’s house and sort out meeting him in Nottingham for a lift home. I got off the bus and managed to find my way to Capital One and met him there. He dropped me off home and now I’m going to go to bed 🙂
Oh, I’m uploading the pictures I took. They’re pretty dark. Jo’s room wasn’t very well lit, I’ll brighten them and re-upload them some other time. They’re the ones at the bottom 😉
Canterbury Tales
I had to use that post title. It’s the law.
The trip to Canterbury was super fast 🙂 Definitely less than the 4.5 hours predicted by Google Maps 😉 It’s a really nice city. I vaguely remember it from when I was there before. It was cool to see Emma again. It’d been a couple of years since I last saw her. I took a billion pictures which are all going into my Random Phone Pictures gallery for now. I’ll be sorting through all of my pictures when I convert over to my new gallery because they’ll all need to be classified anyway.
The drive back was less fun. The roads were a lot busier, and full of stupid drivers, but never mind. Scissor Sisters helped a lot. I’m going to buy their album when I know how much money I have to spare.
Back to work tomorrow… So I’m going to sleep nice and early tonight. 🙂 Good night.
P.S. Don’t ask me because I don’t know.
