Busy at work

for the last couple of days I’ve been the only person at work for the first half of the day. Yesterday was Adam’s late shift so I was alone until Sue got here. Today Adam is off sick, so I’m on my own until Sue gets here at 2pm (it’s her late shift today). 🙁

It’s been pretty bothersome having to run around and do everything for everyone at the same time, but oh well. Hopefully not for too much longer.

Lizz did help me out a bit earlier, which was nice. I actually got a break to eat my sandwich on.

Hopefully the rest of the week won’t be the same. 🙂

I was out with Dave and Rebecca last night. We both drove his car a little bit. On the way home he got pulled over by a police car for no real reason. They followed him for ages, probably checking his number plate, then pulled him over as soon as we got into a 30mph zone. I think they’d been hoping he’d speed so they could have a real reason to pull him over, but oh well. Everything was in order so they couldn’t really do anything.

Fun stuff.

Books, jobs, and an empty house

I finished reading Macbeth a little while ago. I didn’t particularly enjoy it. There were some good bits, and some boring bits. I mostly just read the words without really absorbing them though, since it’s written in something only vaguely resembling English.

I’m now going back to reading Ticktock by Dean Koontz for pleasure and Ulysses by James Joyce because it’s on a list.

Adam’s going to be leaving college in a week and a day or so, which is going to be weird. The only good thing to come of it as far as concerns me is that there will be a better job for me to apply for. It’s only being advertised internally, oo. I should really have an excellent chance of getting it, but I’m not going to assume it’s mine until someone tells me so. I’ve written out a full application form and I’ll almost certainly be going through a full interview and stuff, just like going from a temp to a permanent member of staff.

It’s quite weird now that Rachel has gone back to Bolton. There’s no air bed taking up all the floor space, no suit case lying around, no 12-year-old to watch my language/actions around… It’s awesome! 😀 Don’t get me wrong, she was fun to have around and everything, but it’d be much better if we had more space for guests.

I’m the only person at work in the IT Centre today, and it’s not really been that bad. I’ve had a few things to fix, a few bookings to take, and not much else.

I was half an hour late getting to work though. I got on the correct bus, but after half an hour of sitting I was still 12 miles away from work (it’s a 14 mile drive). There had been a crash involving a car and a van in the middle of a junction which doubled the length of my journey. Two ambulances were arriving as we went past the scene, hopefully they’re only a formality though. :\

Too busy to blog

Rebecca’s sister Rachel has been staying with us for over a week now. She’s been very cool to have around. 🙂 It’s been a bit cramped in the flat with three people, even though two of them are pretty small!

On Friday I went to see Architecture In Helsinki with Len and it was one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to in my life! I bought their new album and also a T-shirt. I bumped into Ange from Capital One while I was in there, and her friend Jo. We ended up all going to Speak Easy for some drinks after the show. It was a pretty random night, but definitely very good. After Ange, Len, and I had stood at the bus stop waiting for the Pronto for a decade we decided it’d be better for Len to stay at mine. So we got a taxi up there instead. Much easier.

Saturday was my day for going into town to meet Gordon, Tim, Vlad, Mike and other people from work. it was a really good night that ended up with Gordon and I chatting with a couple of old ladies in The Social about why they shouldn’t go to Reflex. They went anyway though.

Sunday Dave drove Rebecca, Rachel, and I all over the place. We went to Thoresby Market, and then to Dave’s for a barbecue, followed by random driving until fairly late at night. It was a lot of fun too.

Last night was my late shift at work, and tonight is my course (starting in 9 minutes). I did some “teaching” with Emma Jones, which actually consisted of sitting around while the students did some diagnostic tests. I’m sure it’ll be a lot more hectic in a week though. 🙂

Anyway, I better get going now if I don’t want to be late. 😀

Witing, waiting, waiting

I’m at the Sherwood Partnership Building at the moment. I’ve been here for 25 minutes and I’m already an administrator on this computer. I’m bored.

I’ve got to wait another 35 minutes until my course begins, so I’m desperately trying to kill some time. I should probably see if they have some wireless around here or something, but I sincerely doubt it. :'(

I’m really quite tired after two busy days at work. I was in for 11 hours yesterday because of the inductions, and I don’t finish here until 20:30 tonight. That means I’ll need to catch the 21:30 bus home which should get me home by 22:10. I left the house at 07:30! 🙁

I suppose that the problems are all part of the test of how much I want to become a teacher. Although it’d still be better if the course was held up at the main college site. Everyone knows where that place is. Roll on 2010 and the opening of the new college. Actually, I bet the new college doesn’t open until 2011. Building projects are hardly ever on time, it seems.

30 minutes to go, _this_ was helpful. :\

Another barbecue, inductions

Dave hosted another successful barbecue last night. This is probably the first and last stretch of decent days we’re going to have in England this “summer” so we had to do something. It went really well, and everyone was full and happy at the end of the night.

Today and yesterday I’ve been giving inductions to new students. It’s been pretty interesting so far. I’m kinda getting used to talking to a class of people, which is a good (essential) step on the road to becoming a teacher! 😛

Life is good. 🙂
