Tiring work

I’m on my lunch break, and enjoying it.

Today and yesterday are two of the busiest days I’ve ever seen here. It’s the run up to Christmas and everyone has assignments to hand in, so they need computers.

Robert was at a funeral yesterday and didn’t come in until 16:15. Sue called in sick but said she’d be in today. She hasn’t actually turned up. She didn’t call to let anyone know either.

I’ve got my course tonight. I’ve made a quick change to the referred assignment from last week and it should pass this time. I’ll probably get some more assignments back tonight too. Hopefully they’ll be passes. Or at least one!

I really need to fill out the forms for the next course! I think I’ll do that when I’m back o nthe desk in a minute. 🙁

I just ate oysters

Oysters are a bit horrible to eat.

I put them under the grill, then put some butter in their shells and cooked them a bit more. I didn’t particularly fancy eating them raw.

I swallowed the first one whole, but made the mistake of chewing the second (bigger) one. Ugh. That was a horrible thought. I was chewing through every part of a creature that was alive less than 10 minutes previously. Craziness.

Anyway, that’s another one off the list.

I got Foo Fighters Tickets for Wembley

I actually managed to get tickets for the Foo Fighters at Wembley on the second announced date (which is actually the day before the one they announced first). That’s pretty awesome. 😀

I’m probably not going to bother going though, so I’ve stuck them on eBay already.

£200 buy it now if anyone’s interested. 😉

Looking at a bungalow

I went to look at a bungalow with Lizz and her dad earlier on. It’s pretty cool, so we’ve filled out application forms for it already. We’re going to take them over to Mapperley after our late shift and see if we can get it. I don’t know how long it’s all going to take, but I can’t imagine it being more than a couple of weeks.

Firefox 3

Firefox 3 Beta 1 was released at the beginning of this week. Finally there’s a getElementsByClass() function. It’s something I had to write myself back when I was developing this website. I’d imagine that now it exists it’ll still use the one in my Javascript file over the one they’ve written. That should be the order of precedence anyway. Perhaps there’ll be some sort of name clash. I guess I should test it!

So yeah, I’m playing around with the beta today. Hopefully there’ll be some interesting new stuff.

Update
Well, there are a few little additions. There’s no longer a pop-up asking if you want to save a password, it comes up in a little bar at the top of the page, much like Internet Explorer, or some other messages in Firefox 2.

If you go to a site with an invalid SSL certificate then it’s a bit more difficult than just clicking on Ok a couple of times to get onto it. You have to add the site to an exception list and stuff.

The download window’s changed a bit, to give more information.

You can click a little star at the end of the address bar to bookmark the site. If you click it again then you can change the information in the bookmark without going to the bookmarks menu and right-clicking and stuff. That’s pretty useful. 🙂

I like it.

Micro-teach over with

I’m writing this in VIM because I’m not connected to the Internet right now. I’ve just got home from my teacher training course. I delivered my micro-teach to the rest of the class a couple of hours ago.

I was really quite nervous about the whole thing for the majority of the afternoon. I don’t really know why it got to me so much, and why only then, but oh well. It’s over and done with now and I passed perfectly. I got good feedback from the other people in the class, and the teacher, so all is well.

Now I only have a couple of weeks left on the course. I’ll really need to sort out getting enrolled on the follow-on course in the next couple of weeks. I’ll try to get the ball rolling tomorrow.

I got a refer on the only assignment I got back. I’m ok with that though, because I only started writing it the day before I handed it in. With a tiny addition to the conclusion it’ll go to a pass instead. I do have another two assignments to come back. They could be refers too, but I’m still not worried about it.

I’m quite amazed that so much of the course is over with already. 10 weeks have absolutely flown by! When the course started I was in a completely different place and my life was pretty different. Some things have stayed the same but quite a few have changed. I suppose it’s all for the best for everyone when I consider it now. It was a bit shit for some people for a while, but things are good now. 🙂

I’m going to look at a bungalow on Thursday. Hopefully I’ll be moving back to Mansfield soon. That’s a sentence I _never_ thought I’d actually say. It’ll be a lot more convenient being there. It’ll be more expensive, too, but oh well. It’ll save a 20 minute car journey at both ends of the day. Any extra time in bed is a bonus! 😀

I get paid in 2 days! I can’t wait! 🙂

Good assignments

I wrote 2 600 word assignments in 24 hours, as well as creating a 6-week scheme of work, and a lesson plan. 😀

When I went to my course I got back 3 other essays that I’d handed in the week before. All passes, so that’s pretty good. Now I’ve finished all of the theory essays. I still have a couple that apparently come under the realm of practical essays. Not sure how that works, but ok. I can’t write those until I’ve taught my micro-teach though. Speaking of which, I’m a bit nervous about it because it’s next Tuesday night.

3 people did theirs last night and they were really good. I just hope mine compares to theirs somehow. 😐 I should probably see if I can work out a practice run before the actual session so I’ve got a good idea how it’ll go.

I’ve got to see about switching from the PTLLS course to the CTLLS course soon, because this one is almost done with and I’ll need to switch straight after Christmas. If I do that then I’ll be doing my late shift on Monday with some time set aside for being in Emma’s class, assisting with Vlad on a Tuesday evening (hopefully), and then my course on a Thursday evening. That’ll make me an incredibly busy (and tired) person.

It’ll be worth it.

If you keep doing what you have done you will keep getting what you’ve got. Do something different.

Catch up time again

I skipped going to my course last Tuesday and now I’ve got to catch up with some more work again. It shouldn’t be too much for me to handle, but it depends on how work goes today. It’s usually slow on a Monday this year, but Robert’s decided to spend the morning typing up an email in another room. It’s not a problem at the moment, but it signifies that he’s not in a great mood, and will probably be off in his own world a bit for the rest of the day.

I’m going through to the library to work on their front desk for a while at 9:30, so that’ll shake things up a little, hopefully.

I’ve got to write an essay, come up with a lesson plan, and a 6-week scheme of work before tomorrow. It’s just like being back in Brunts. 😀

Another awesome concert

Hell Is For Heroes were awesome. 😀

They played everything I wanted them to, and some of their new stuff that I don’t know yet. I’ll have to get their self-titled album at some point soon and give it a listen. I never think listening to a live track is a good way to really get to know a song.

But yeah, now to get on with my weekend of doing nothing.
