Craig Update

When I got here I spoke to David about Craig leaving, all the possibilities and stuff. We were sat in the reception area and David pointed out that Craig’s certificates had been taken down.

That’s a pretty strange thing to do unless you’ve been fired or quit.

I was sat here about 30 minutes ago when I heard some doors open. That’s extremely odd at this time of night as I should be the only one here until 7am tomorrow morning.

I went through to the reception to see Craig here. He’d come to find his Switch card which he thought he may have left here.

I asked him why his certificates had been taken down. He kind of smiled a bit and told me that he has quit. He has a better job offer somewhere else so he’s going to take it. The pay is higher and the hours are better.

His possible promotion was an effort by Rob (Managing Director) to keep Craig here. The offer that Rob made was still going to be worse than his new job offer so Craig decided to turn it down and leave still.

It does seem that nobody will actually be being promoted in his place. It will just be Craig leaving and the new guy, Tim, will be here to cover his shifts under the same job title as me – Operation Support Technician. Which leaves Olly as the only Senior Operation Support Technician. Which basically makes him the new team leader. Just without the title and without the extra pay.

I called David almost as soon as Craig had gone to tell him the good news. I also told David what Craig had said to me about suggesting a raise from Rob to something more like £12,000 instead of £8000. David is going to email Rob tomorrow to suggest this to Rob, I can’t really see this going very far, but we now know that Rob is willing to increase pay to keep at least one member of staff who was basically useless anyway. So maybe he’ll pay more to keep us happy. I wouldn’t count on it personally though.

I have a job in front of me now that I am going to apply for. It is for a wage increase of £1750 which may not seem like an incredible amount but I highly doubt I will be working shifts, I won’t be technical support for some retards on the phone and my wages will be higher to start with, with a higher chance of increasing, probably.

I will have to travel to get there though, as it is in Nottingham which is 14 miles away from here. I would be able to afford driving lessons for that or I could use public transport. It’s only half an hour of travelling at most by train which is the same price as a bus, possibly even less with a regular travellers thingy pass.

In other news

My geckos that were for sale have been sold for £150. Stefanie has taken £10 of that because she put them up for sale and sorted it out for me. That leaves me with £140 that I can spend on my plane tickets to America. I now have more than enough to go and book the flights. Excellent.

The phone at my house has been cut off because the bill was paid late because I didn’t want to pay the whole thing myself (which I ended up doing anyway). Hopefully that will be sorted out by tomorrow as I am supposed to be calling Laura before she goes to school tomorrow… I hope it’s working by then.

Craig paid me back the £40 he owed me for the NTL bill today because he got paid.

Maria still owes me £100 for rent and phone bills. Which is pretty annoying.

I have quite a fair amount of work to be getting on with tonight. I have an NT server to fix. The spooler service repeatedly breaks causing printer problems for everyone on the network. That will hopefully only be a smiple fix or a reinstallation of the printing services or something nice like that. I have computers to build and lots of little crappy things to sort out. This all means that I will be unable to build the RedHat server as a proxy tonight.
