Telephones, passport and the endless wait

Well… I finished work at 7am. My first night shift, which is always the hardest one, especially when your ex-girlfriend wakes you up 3 hours earlier than you should be awake at. Then you can’t sleep more.

I got a lift to work with my mum. David stayed later at work to tell me some stuff about the work I’d been set for the night. Great, work to do.

I did some work. I sat around on IRC a bit… The usual.

I also found out that the phones at home wouldn’t dial house phones/mobile phones etc. This is because the bill was paid late. That happened because Maria and Craig had spent all of their money and couldn’t afford their phone bill and I didn’t want to pay it all. I ended up paying it all anyway, which is why they owe(d) me money. Craig’s paid me back now.

So I called my mum on my way home and told her that I had booked my tickets, she sounded pleased. I called Stefanie to see if she had sorted out the phone problem for me last night. She hadn’t, as I expected. So I asked her to do it today.

I called her back a few minutes later and she told me that she was unable to do it.

I walked around to her house for the first time in months. I used her phone to call NTL to get this sorted out. They asked me for my account number, presumed I was my landlord and said it would be sorted in 2 hours.

I went home after a bit and went to sleep.

Laura called my mobile a few hours later. I picked up the house phone to call her back but the phone wouldn’t dial the number. It wasn’t fixed yet.

I called Laura from my mobile phone and spoke to her for a very short amount of time costing me a surprisingly large amount of money.

I went back to sleep.

My mum woke me up to tell me that she had sorted out my passport and I should have it within 10 days. Then she went back home and I slept again until it was time to come to work.

David stayed a while again…

I called home to ask Craig to see if he could dial Laura’s number. Laura’s number didn’t work but local home phone numbers did, mobile phones didn’t work either.

I sorted out a few problems, there was at least one that I could do nothing about as the user had either turned the computer off or VNC (the best program in the world) wasn’t running. Stupid people.

I’m currently waiting for RedHat 8 to install on what is to be our new proxy computer at work.

233mhz, 128MB RAM, 1×4GB hard drive, 1×9GB hard drive (possibly broken).

When that is installed and working I will need to learn how to set it up to share a connection with every other computer on the network. That should be loads of fun for me.

When I finish work tomorrow I will be calling NTL as it will have been 24 hours instead of the 2 hours that they said it would take. If it’s not fixed in time for me to call Laura before she goes to school again I will be extremely pissed off with Maria and Craig for causing the problem and NTL for not sorting the problem when they said they would.

It’s fucking ridiculous. I hate being responsible.

On a brighter note, my tickets will arrive today if all has gone well in the postal world 🙂

The waiting (even for only about 30 hours) is driving me crazy. It’s probably going to be worse when I have the tickets and I’m waiting for 30th March… Oh well, better to have the tickets and wait for the flight than to wait for the tickets and miss the flight 🙂
