Well, I’m here again, in the Math Lab. 3 hours remain until my Computer Science class even begins, and so I’m trying to find a way to occupy myself on the internet for three hours.
I didn’t think it was difficult before, but I have no MSN or IRC unless I want to use telnet. I’m not supposed to install things on this computer, so I’m not going to… Probably.
Oh well, at least I know that I will fill up the hours I need to get my extra points in Math.
I have an essay to write for English so I guess I could begin working on that already, although I don’t know if I can be bothered or not. I have a test in math later that I could revise for, but I’ve already solved about a billion problems using the same techniques so I’m pretty sure I know them all well enough. I suppose I should leave math until after computer science, because I have a gap of an hour or so to fill there and I’d rather not just sit in class with a blank look on my face until the lesson begins.
I discovered earlier that if you power down Windows Server 2003 with an Apple iPod plugged in, mounted and charging the iPod never says that it’s safe to unplug it. That’s quite annoying really, because it also fucks over the battery display making me think that I only had a little amount of battery left, when in fact it was full.
I always imagined that Windows unmounted devices when it powered down so that they could be removed safely… What else could take the latest 3 or 4 version so god damn long to shut down? “Saving settings…” [3 hours later] “Shutting down Windows.” ARGH.
Perhaps Windows does unmount the device, in which case Apple are morons and need to update the iPod firmware to change the display when the computer powers down.
I think I’ll email someone at eff.org now… Could be worth it. Like I said though, I’ll still try to get out of the stupid volunteer work if I can.
I’ll no doubt be back soon. Continue reading →
