Set Up Remote Recording

Before you can use the remote recording abilities of Sky+ or Sky+ HD you need to set up a few little things that you may already have done.

Things you will need

  1. A mobile phone (shouldn’t be much of a problem if you’re installing my app)
  2. A Sky+ or Sky+ HD box. Regular Sky does not have Remote Record
  3. A landline to plug your box into

Things to keep in mind

  1. You should send your remote record request at least 30 minutes before the show begins
  2. These requests are sent to your box through the satellite and so they may not be instant
  3. Your Sky box must be powered on, but it can be in standby mode

Setting it up

Firstly you’ll need a Sky ID so you can login on Sky’s website.

Then you need to turn on your Sky box and press the Interactive button on your Sky+ remote control and press 1 for Sky Active.

Go to Sky Products and then choose Remote Record in there.

Choose the Register My Sky Users option. You’ll be sent to a page saying that you are about to be connected to a free number. Press Select to continue.

Enter your mobile phone number and press Select to finish off.

You should see a confirmation screen and now you are able to send Remote Record requests. Be happy! :)

Ok all set up then I search program I want which was found what do I do next as there are no more options?

  4. Stu says:

Once you’ve got a list of showings you just hold down your finger on the one you want to record for a second or so. If you haven’t entered your username and password then it’ll prompt you to do that first.

Why aren’t all channels listed. ESPN channels don’t seem to appear

  6. Stu says:

The channels listed in search results come directly from Sky’s website. If some aren’t listed then it seems likely that they’re not included on the listings for some reason.

I’m going through a complete rewrite of Remote Recorder to make it much better. I plan on adding proper TV listings, etc. I’ll see if there’s something obvious that I can do to get ESPN channels listed, but if it’ll take too much work for the current version I’ll just have to incorporate it into the rewrite instead.

My screen is blank, all i have is a search box . Aren’t programmes supposed to be listed? I’m using a tmobile g2

  8. Stu says:

Remote Recorder doesn’t have a listings section yet, although I am working on adding it in my current rewrite.

  9. PHIL says:

APP OK,HOWEVER WOULD I TRUST IT TO USE TO RECORD A FOOTBALL MATCH ?, EXAMPLE – DOES NOT SHOW ALL SKY LISTING, I.E TRY TO USE TO RECORD ABERDEEN V ST JOHNSTONE ON ESPN ; SUN 11TH APRIL AND IT DOES NOT FIND IT ! AND TODAY IS THE 11TH . POOR SHOW !

  10. Stu says:

    Hi Phil,

I have noticed that ESPN seems to not show up in the application. I’m not really 100% as to why that is at the moment, but I have quite a few little bits of work to do to which might serve to fix this problem. I’ll make sure it’s on my testing list.

  11. Ozi says:

When I press the program I want, the program crashes

  12. Stu says:

Hi Ozi, does it crash when selecting the show name from the search results, or when choosing the showing in the results for the show name?

Does the app say it’s loading before it crashes, or is it instant?

What make/model phone do you have? Do you know what version of Android it’s running?

  13. Ozi says:

It happens instantly when I’m selecting a scheduled program. I’m using a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 running android 1.6

  14. Stu says:

Hmm, I can’t duplicate the behaviour at all on any of the phones/emulators I have access to.

I’m still working on a new version of the app that will be compatible with Android 1.6, so I’m afraid the only thing I can suggest is waiting until then…

  15. Jonathan Farbowski says:

When selecting program to record the application force closes. Orange Hero on 2.1.
