Twofifty Facebook app

I recently went to update my progress on IMDb’s top 250 films on the handy Facebook app by Tim Broddin only to find that it redirects to a domain that no longer seems to be working. I suspect this app has run its course now. How very annoying. The reason I’m most annoyed is that I used to be a member of a few years back. This site was also created by Tim Broddin, and it was also allowed to expire, so I lost track of my progress.

I wrote my own version to use for a while, but then this Facebook app turned up and I figured that was going to be a good replacement. How wrong I was.

I’m considering writing my own, again, and I will keep it running because I want to use it.

  1. Hi Stu,

Thanks for mentioning my name a few times, it made it very easy for me to find 🙂 The problems at the beginning of the month were caused by some server problems, and the server problems were caused by Twofifty not being able to scale.

I did lose track of the project but the sudden crash at the start of this month was a bit of a wake up call. I never could imagine that the app would one day have 150.000 users (and was unaware of that fact until the beginning of this month). Because the original Facebook app was not built for that many users I’ve rewritten it from scratch during a week off work.

The new version is online as of last week and I hope you enjoy it. There’s less functionality than in the previous version. I’m planning on adding some things like the personal lists and customs lists in the weeks to come.

I promise to maintain this version better than the previous two. As a Twofifty regular, I’d love to hear your feedback, so please feel free to mail me at the address I posted this with.

  2. Hi Tim, glad you found the post. I was also very glad when I discovered that the application was working again. I like the new look and feel.

Thanks for maintaining, updating, and hosting it. 🙂

  3. It’s not working for me, keeps refreshing and i can’t mark in the movies I’ve recently seen. Is someone having difficulties with this too?
