I have been forced to post this by rather persistent messaging from Dan at work:
Just over a week ago Cheryl, Hayley, Dave, and I went on a road trip to London to watch the last F1 race of the season with JonP and Alex. We all made mix CDs to play on the journeys, which was cool. We also played the psychic game, where only one of us was allowed to put The Chain by Fleetwood Mac onto their mix CD but we couldn’t discuss it. If more than one of us put it on then we all lost, if none of us put it on then we all lost. somewhat amazingly I was the only one who put it on their CD, although Dave did put it on a secret CD by itself because he doesn’t believe in our psychic powers. 😉
The time in London was fun. We mostly just had some drinks and watched TV and films into the night. Very relaxed (and cheap!) compared to most of my trips to London. We watched the race on the Sunday and we were all pleased that Fernando Alonso did not win the championship, because he’s a wanker.
Cheryl’s friend Holly came to visit over the weekend. We all ended up staying up until about 8:30 in the morning watching random movies and just generally chatting, drinking, and stuff. It was fun even if the movie choices were a bit dubious.
The other day I bought Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. I had no intention of buying it until a little while before I got it from HMV, but oh well. It’s actually a really enjoyable game. I’m just hoping I can finish it tonight because I should finally get Gran Turismo 5 tomorrow! 😀
I’ve been waiting for Gran Turismo 5 since I first got my Playstation 3 a few years ago. It’s been delayed many times, but this time there are no more delays. It is out tomorrow and I should get my copy in the post really soon. 😀 I was kinda hoping it would arrive a day early because it was sent on Saturday, but no such luck. If it doesn’t arrive tomorrow I will probably go on a killing spree… I hope I don’t lose my job and get taken to court for saying that, as it’s obviously a joke.
A song that used to get played on the radio a lot was S.O.S. by Rihanna. Every single time I heard this song it made me think of the exact same thing when it reached the chorus of the song. At first I simply misunderstood what she was singing, but later I couldn’t lose the thought I had come up with the first time. This is the bit I mean:
S.O.S. please someone help me
It’s not healthy for me to feel this
Y O U are making this hard
When I first heard this I thought Rihanna was saying it wasn’t healthy for her to “feel this way” and then proceeding to say “oh you are making this hard.” Some lyrics sites I searched actually came to similar conclusions.
When I realised she was spelling out a word I immediately assumed the “are” was just the letter R. This would mean she sang “your making this hard” which probably a lot of Rihanna listeners wouldn’t grumble about. They can’t use the correct “you’re” or “your” because they’re only 14 and they’re too busy looking after their babies.
Whenever I hear this song that bit annoys me and I’m forced to switch to another radio station immediately. One day all stations will cease playing Rihanna’s music and I will only have to switch stations when one of the other 1000 annoying songs come on.
I was listening to John Barrowman’s album in Hayley’s car yesterday on the way home from work. That’s a strange enough sentence to begin a blog post by itself, but that’s a story for another day, perhaps. Track 2 on the album is a cover of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. I’ve heard many different versions of this song by a variety of different artists, but I always seem to enjoy listening to it. The one thing really annoys me about the lyrics is something that not all artists do (thanks Muse), but most of them do. This is what I’m talking about:
You’re just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you
I absolutely hate the pairing of the words ‘off’ and ‘of’ like that. In this case the title doesn’t even match the line that’s in the song!
99% of the time the word ‘of’ can be omitted or both words can be replaced with the word ‘from’ which is shorter to say and has the added advantage of not making the speaker sound like a 5 year old who hasn’t quite learned to speak English properly.
I went to see Manu Chao at Rock City on Wednesday. It was the best gig I’ve ever been to in my life. They must have come back on stage at least 4 times. They played for 2 hours, and it was all absolutely amazing. 😀
Tonight I’m going back to City to watch Hell Is For Heroes, which will be cool. I’ve wanted to see them for a long time now. I’ve been listening to them since something like 2002 or so. The Neon Handshake is still in my top 20 favourite albums.
It’s going to be a good night, followed by a weekend of doing nothing, hopefully.
